FLOWER SONGS MUSIC
XOCHI CUICATL
FLOR Y CANTO
Xochi Cuicatl (“Flower Songs Music”) presents as a familia
with Yolanda Delgado García and Alegría García across the
United States, Mexico, and Europe. Founded by improvising
composer, multi-instrumentalist, and patriarch Christopher
García, the ensemble creates contemporary ancestral music
through the instruments, languages, resonance, and silence
of Indigenous Mesoamerica and Mexico, incorporating pre-
and post-invasion vernaculars and Indigenous breath,
percussion, stone, and string instruments alongside
traditional pre- and post-invasion songs sung in Nahuatl,
Purépecha, Seri, and Spanish.

Their work is informed by decades of practical experience-
LISTENING, R&D, TRAVELS,
archaeological fieldwork combined
with formal education in
anthropology, history, world music, and art history
combined with
hundreds of lectures, performances, and commissions for
chamber ensembles, dance companies, films, and theater
groups, these experiences provide a distinctive perspective
on sharing the cultures and histories they continue to
explore.

The ensemble approaches its work with the understanding
that knowledge is not merely the accumulation of
information and that our understanding of the past
continues to evolve.
