THE ELDER
after reading a few hours and
cross referencing info from several
different sourcers
it was time to head out........
made the not so long drive
knocked on the front door
was invited in and sat down
this elder has an additional
10, 950 days
an additional
262,800 hours
1,576,800 minutes
of being on the planet longer than me......
sharp as a tack
healthy as a race horse
and with a heart of gold
some folks survive to exist,
some folks thrive in spite of its (LIFE's(?)) obstacles
then there are those who are beyond words
advanced age does not necessarily mean advanced wisdom
we have all met some brilliant 4 year old's
and also some "to set in their way" elders
then there are those others........
being able to sit there ask questions
and listen is a gift
when it was time I got up and said
THANK YOU
walked to the front door and opened it
was told
"you made my day,
I only have 20 years left of them"
and laughed
that would mean living to the age of 106
made we want to laugh and cry all at the same time
just shook my head
and smiled and walked across the porch
down the stairs
and crossed the street
back into the world...............
I have read that
"The beginning of wisdom is silence"
so I'll shut up now……………
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
“When I was a boy of 14,
my father was so ignorant
I could hardly stand to have the old man around.
But when I got to be 21,
I was astonished at how
much the old man had learned in seven years.”
attributed to
MARK TWAIN
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
“Any fool can know.
The point is to understand.”
ALBERT EINSTEIN
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
“By three methods we may learn wisdom:
First,
by reflection,
which is noblest;
Second,
by imitation,
which is easiest;
and
third
by experience,
which is the bitterest.”
CONFUCIUS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
“Yesterday I was clever,
so I wanted to change the world.
Today I am wise,
so I am changing myself.”
JALALUDDIN RUMI
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
“some people can read War and Peace and think
it to be nothing more than a cheap romance novel,
while others can read a bubble gum wrapper and discover...........
the secrets of the universe.”
LEX LUTHOR
blessed to still be and overwhelmed yet again..............
