THE INSTRUMENTS
Despite losing 90% of their Indigenous population,
some 80 to 120 million people,
(the largest documented genocide in the history of the world)
the instruments continue to thrive
but unlike instruments of other ancient cultures
who did not lose 90% of their population,
these instruments continue to be played daily
by thousands of modern-day practitioners
in more traditional settings daily throughout Mexico,
these instruments are not sitting behind glass
in a museum somewhere
We are 3 of thousands of modern-day practitioners,
who continue to play traditional and compose original music,
in traditional settings and non traditional settings
e.g.,
with chamber groups and world music groups from varous
countries
e.g.,
China, India, Japan, the Near, Middle and Far East
with concerts and lectures in
England
Mexico
The United States
the earliest radiocarbon dated murals of the
instruments being played is 100 B.C.,
in Guatemala,
and they are Mayan,
