THE CHARLATAN
one day, watching a young man, 25 to 35 years old squatting in the dirt wearing a little more than a loin cloth and a headband and barefoot explaining LA PIEDRA DEL SOL mistakenly called THE AZTEC CALENDAR STONE, to a group of people listening intently he had one on the floor, the kind you can buy waiting to cross the border to and from the United States he spoke with a very heavy Mexican accent and he would point and speak slowly and carefully and share his “knowledge” with these folks standing around listening In rapt attention when he was done sharing his wisdom(?) they threw dollar bills on the ground and he nodded and thanked them when they all walked away he squatted in the dirt and picked up the money that was thrown there and wrapped up his calendar stone in a blanket walked over and squatted in the dirt next to him “all that stuff you said to them is not true.” he stopped, looked at me and stood up with dollar bills in his hands “That’s what they want to hear…” he replied in perfect English without any trace of an accent “But you know what you said was untrue, why would you do that?” He shrugged his shoulders threw the money into a backpack put on some sneakers and walked away back into the world............. it is one thing to have a difference of interpretation as the paradigm changes all the time but it is another thing to tell a lie and/or withhold information that is readily available for anyone to spend more than 30 minutes to look up from credible sources and cross reference that information “Cherish those who seek the truth but beware of those who find it.” VOLTAIRE AQUI Y AHORA VIVA LA VIDA FOR ADDITIONAL INFO CLICK BELOW www.getty.edu/research/exhibitions_events/exhibitions/obsidian_mirror/aztec_calendar_stone.html |
